8.15am

and while I've been up long enough to get everyone breakfast and clean up afterwards, put on a load of washing and put away dishes from last night, I can count it as a sleep in day - I was in bed until 6.35 this morning!

Its got me pondering though, how do people with kids manage to have them sleep in until a reasonable hour. To me anything before 7am is not reasonable. If my kids slept until 7.30 that would be perfect by me. It leaves plenty of time on kindy days and is long enough on other days to mean that everyone should be well rested.

I know that quite often there is a trade off. For example, my girls go to bed at 7 and 7.30 so I expect them to sleep about 11-12 hours from there. I have tried in the past to put them to bed later but I'm not happy to be up at 5.30am which is what seems to happen when they're in bed later.

What really got me thinking was when I looked out the kitchen window while rinsing porridge off everything (G can sure spread that stuff) and noticed that once again my neighbour's still have their roller shutters down at this time of morning. Their youngest is the same age as G and he sleeps in the room that faces my kitchen. The roller shutter is down any time he is in bed and they put it up as soon as he gets up.

The worst part this morning is that I went to bed early last night with the intent of getting more sleep and it resulted in worse sleep - both little girls were awake more or for longer! So typical

Five more sleeps until Daddy is home
