The last few days we have had the most gorgeous weather. The sun has been shining and also its been cool outside its been warm enough to get the kids out and playing. I've taken advantage of this time and really gotten into the garden.
I keep ringing hubby to ask him if he thinks we should keep this push or that creeper etc etc. We are hoping to have money available later in the year for a full garden makeover but for now its just keeping on top of what we've got!
So far I've done the weeding down the side of the house and most of the way along the side fence as well as in the ugly raised garden beds along that side. I've started on the back fence garden bed but its that horrible stringy grass that really hurts your hands to pull out - a definite hubby job!
I've pruned our fruit trees and worked out which branches should continue along the line (the apple trees that were in when we bougth here were trained along wires so we've continued on with this with our stone fruit trees and pear) One of our apple trees has had a major growth spurt since the last time it was pruned so there was plenty of work on that one. I've also cut away a creeper from around our shed ready for hubby to remove the bottom of it and I've taken off the wire and hooks that were there for it to climb on.
We had three grape vines but now have just 3 stumps! After another year of them producing inedible fruit despite plenty of water and attention we (probably more I) have decided to get rid of them and put in something pretty that will climb the pergola. I'm guessing we will have a shopping trip while hubby is home next week.
I've also pruned back some of hte olive tree as it was starting to overgrow the path but given that there is still plenty of fruit on there I can't do much more for now. My mum may take more fruit the next time she comes up - its been a bumper year! She's already taken 2 huge buckets full and there has been at least another bucket worth drop on the ground!
I'm now really hoping that we can budget to get the yard properly redone as it would be nice to have a flat lawn for the girls to play on and to be able to put the trampoline etc on without having to keep moving around to find a flat spot. It will also be good not to have the ugly half pine rounds as garden edging - they're all disintergrating anyway and dropping away from their original locations
